Background audits
Normally an audit runs while Damdit is open and stops when you quit. Damdit Runner keeps Damdit working in the background: it finishes a running audit after you close the window, runs scheduled audits, and answers the damdit command and MCP while the window is closed.
Turn it on
Section titled “Turn it on”Settings → General → Automatic Audits → Run audits in the background.
The status below the switch says what the runner is doing:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Off | Audits run in the window and stop when you quit Damdit. |
| Waiting for your approval | macOS needs your permission. Choose Open Login Items… and allow Damdit in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions. |
| Running | Audits continue when you close Damdit. The runner starts when you log in. |
| Unavailable in this copy of Damdit | Move Damdit to Applications (macOS), or install it (Windows, Linux), and open it from there. |
With the runner on, quitting Damdit closes its windows and the runner keeps going. On a Mac, Damdit leaves the Dock until you open it again.
The runner starts at login: on macOS as a login item, on Windows from your user’s startup programs, on Linux with an autostart entry.
During an audit the runner keeps the computer awake. It doesn’t wake a sleeping computer, except a Mac with wake for scheduled audits turned on.
Turn it off
Section titled “Turn it off”Turn off the switch. If an audit is running, choose Turn Off After This Audit or Stop Audit and Turn Off. A stopped audit saves no result, and audits waiting to start are cancelled.
